The site is in the townland of Corbetstown to the north-east of Killucan in Co. Westmeath. The existing private dwelling is in part of a one and two-storey, mid-19th century stone building, formerly an outbuilding of Corbetstown House, a two-storey house from c.1820 located approximately 100 metres to the north.

The clients wished to refurbish the original conversion of the outbuilding.  It is proposed that this refurbishment will incorporate a hallway and bedrooms on the ground floor, with a master bedroom, service area, kitchen and dining room on the first floor.

It is also proposed to extend the existing dwelling to the south-west to provide a semi-outdoor workspace and access on the ground floor and living space and a study on the first floor. The extension will be tied to the structure of the existing building at first floor level to ensure its stability but will be glazed at both ends and above to ensure that formally the difference between the old and new constructions will be evident. It is proposed that of the extension be made primarily from brick below, which picks up on the material and tones of the stop-and-start brick detailing to the windows of original building, and concrete above whose design mix will reflect the tones of the stone of the original buildings. Thus the design will appear new and distinct from the original building while tying in with it in terms of material and tone.

It is also proposed to make a paved brick surface to part of the external space of the building to unite the original and new constructions.
