An existing line of 12 metre high Lawson Cypress trees that form the southern boundary of the site is used to make one side of a semi-private courtyard garden, which acts as a protected amenity space for residents. Two blocks of seventy apartments are then arranged to form the other edges of this garden.
The apartments are designed to maximize the number of dual-aspect units (70%) and to allow for as much direct sunlight throughout the day as possible in the living spaces. The arrangement of the circulation allows for daylighting to all the hallways. An emphasis has also been placed on having as many living areas as possible overlooking the courtyard garden in order to ensure a lively and secure amenity space. The elevations are designed as brickwork with inset balconies that provide protected private open space for each apartment. In this way the elevations seek to achieve a rhythmic composition of solid and void. The set-back levels would be finished in a combination of glass and timber cladding. |
