The project comprises the reorganization of and extension to a 1950’s suburban home. The dining room and entrance hall are extended to the rear and a kitchen and family/breakfast room is accommodated in a single storey room to the east, semi enclosing a west-facing courtyard and an existing tree. High level clerestory lighting admits morning light to the kitchen and breakfast room. A utility room and shower room form a piece of furniture in the plan about which one can circulate.
Care has been taken to avoid overlooking of the neighbouring properties by bending the facade of the two-storey extension and angling the windows towards one another. Given the north facing aspect of the rear garden it is proposed that the solid elements of the extension be of white glazed brick in order to reflect light back into the living spaces. |
