Renovation and extension to house in Sandymount

The house forms part of a cranked 1940's terrace built on the site of a former park overlooking the YMCA cricket grounds in Sandymount. A cranked concrete screen makes a new façade to the rear garden, gesturing towards the enclosure of the garden as well as drawing the garden into the house.

The existing rooms extend out to meet this screen, providing more habitable space opening out to the south.  The screen is made from bush-hammered concrete with a loose rhythm of vertical openings that reveal and conceal the interior.

A triangular shaped terrace negotiates between the screen and the lawn and wraps behind the screen to the east to make an external utility space.
