Sandymount, Dublin
The project involves the refurbishment and extension of a typical 1950s semi-detached house in Sandymount. The extension is part two-storey and part one-storey and is built to the side and rear. At ground floor the extension allows for the creation of a new family room organised around a new fireplace with a strong connection to the garden and for a more generous and open kitchen and dining area. The existing staircase is relocated to the centre of the plan in order to give a more flexible and efficient internal layout. The materials used are derived directly from the context - red brick and dry-dashed walls, slate roof and white painted windows.
