The project involves the refurbishment of a four-storey over basement Georgian townhouse as a private residence. There was a requirement to accommodate a home office and meeting room in the ground floor reception rooms that could operate independently of the private rooms of the house. A series of oak fittings were designed and inserted into the existing rooms in order to make it suitable for contemporary living and working. The conservation approach adopted was to protect the existing layout and fabric of the house and to retain all original decoration. All of the new joinery elements are free-standing and held clear of the existing joinery at dado and skirting levels. The new insertions are designed as pieces of furniture rather than permanent fixtures.
