Sandymount, Dublin

The conditions imposed for exemption from planning permissionare the starting point for this extension to a Victorian house.  The project seeks to make the best use of theallowable area by forming a sequence of outdoor and indoor rooms and stretchingthe plan down the narrow garden.  A newkitchen and dining room are added in the single-storey extension that connectsto the original return.  A smallcourtyard is formed on the boundary to bring south light into the kitchen.  A brick fireplace forms the centre-piece ofthe new construction and supports a roof structure of glulam beams.
