The 1.5 hectare site is bound by an extension to the Royal Canal to the west and by the railway station to the north.  A series of single storey courtyard houses arranged around two south facing communal garden areas provide old person’s accommodation at the heart of the scheme.  The intimate courtyards provide an area for the elderly inhabitants to grow plants and sit outside on a fine day without having to maintain a larger garden area.  Car parking spaces are arranged in clusters to optimise the communal garden space.  Sheltered Housing units and houses for the Disabled People of Longford are located to the north of the site between the Canal Walk and the railway. A St. Vincent de Paul Community building is located between these two groups of houses.  A series of 3-bed two storey family houses then form the edges to the road to the east and to the existing community to the south of the site.  A palette of brick screen walls, timber framed windows and slate roofs are proposed throughout.
